Before I share my homeschool room with you, let me be clear…. you do NOT need a homeschool room to homeschool. In our home, we have a dining room we never dined in, so I converted that into a homeschool space. It’s more of a homeschool storage room since we only actually do about 50% of our homeschool in this room.
Simple Homeschool Room
I wasn’t even going to share my homeschool room on here because I literally have a table and chairs with some bookcases. That’s it. But I had just finished re-organizing the bins and clearing off the table and thought, well, if I am ever going to share this room, now is the time to do so. Meaning, it’s never this clean in here. Ever! So, with that, welcome to my homeschool room! I love decorating so I knew I wanted a space that was beautiful to look at, or at least beautiful to me. I think all the wall decor was from Hobby Lobby, and my mom, who also loves decorating, helped me arrange all the pieces. This is actually my favorite room in my entire house (when it’s clean-ish), I love all the messages on the wall that my kids can read every day.
The shelf above the world map print is perfect for storing things like permeant markers or my pens out of reach. Do you have pens that are just yours and no one else is allowed to touch them, or is that just me? I also keep a large family calendar on that wall, which I turned around for the picture since I write information about my kids on there. To round out the homeschool space I have a printer and coloring supplies on a little table and a rolling white board I keep around the corner.
Functional and Pretty Storage Ideas
If you haven’t gathered yet from my other posts, I really like books. So with that I needed some serious storage solutions. I landed on horizontal bookcases and colorful bins. Buying colorful bins was my mom’s idea and I love it so much. It adds a degree of playfulness to the room and I think it ties in well with the world map print below the shelf. I have each bin labeled per subject and I just used some inexpensive dry erase labels from Target and attached them to the bins. This system has been working perfectly for over 2 years and the bins have held up nicely too.

I also have a vertical bookcase from the same line at Target as the horizontal bookcases. Here I house all our picture books, our faith based picture books, holiday books, read alouds and books the kids are reading through on their own. We recently added the canopy which I think really softens this corner and makes it even more inviting. I have some large pillows we use in the reading corner as well to make it extra cozy.

I hope sharing this space was encouraging to you that a simple table, chairs and bookcases can go a long way in function and style. Even if you don’t have a dedicated room, a bookcase with bins would look beautiful in a living room or a bedroom too.
